C6747 EMIFB interface to SDRAM

Hi all,

We are thinking of using a 32-bit SDRAM (Micron MT48LC4M32B2) to interface to the c6747 EMIFB.  Is there any advantage to going with the dual 16-bit interface like on the c6747 EVM instead (for example see page 12 of sprufl7a)?  I've been using the EMIFB SDRAM on the c6747 EVM with the default GEL file settings so  I'm not at all familiar with configuring the EMIFB myself.  Are there any particular hardware constraints on the SDRAM part that I need to be aware of?

Thanks for the help,

Lori

  • Lori,

It's a matter of preference and memory availability.

There's a table in the datasheet under Section 6 Peripheral Information -> EMIFB which shows the memory densities supported on EMIFB with various configurations.  At the time the table was created, the maximum memory density could only be achieved with 2 x 16-bit memories because of component availability.
