AM5728: Clock up to 1200MHz

Hi,

The customer is using AM5728 @1176MHz on OPP_OD. They want a little more higher performance, but they don't want much higher heat up by 1500MHz.

Therefore, they’re considering to clock up just a little to 1200MHz on OPP_HIGH.

Is it possible ? I think it’s possible, but I’m not sure if 1200MHz frequency can be created by the combination of some PLL dividers and multipliers. If so, around 1200MHz would be OK.

If it’s possible to clock up, could you tell them which registers they should set ?

As mentioned in the datasheet of the AM5728: https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/am5728.pdf?ts=1615954437791&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fproduct%252FAM5728, in order to move up to 1200MHz, we will have to increase the voltage to meet the OPP_HIGH recommendations. This will automatically lead to a higher power consumption.

So we do not see any benefit of OPP_HIGH and 1200MHz, it leads to a very marginal gain in performance at the cost of increased power.

The default SDK has validated on 1000, 1176, 1500 and therefore this 1200MHz remains a combination that is very close to 1176 and it has not been validated at OPP_HIGH. You can use the Clock Tree Tool to configure and see if this is possible.

TI does not have plans to validate this unique frequency and voltage combination, but it is achievable by using the Clock Tree Tool and adjusting the multipliers and dividers. Please refer to the ClockTree tool here: https://www.ti.com/tool/CLOCKTREETOOL
