TDA4VM: How to route GPIO from MAIN Domain to specific Test Point (TP)?

Part Number: TDA4VM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TP120

Hi TI,

I want to route a GPIO from MAIN domain to a specific (not yet defined) TP on TDA4VM. However, the suggested Pins for doing this (https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/processors-forum/935447/dra829vxevm-example-on-how-to-set-gpio-for-time-meaurements) are all loocated in the WKUP Domain. Looking up how the Test Points are connected within the board (PROC079E3B(001)_SCH.pdf) was also not very helpful, because the only GPIOs which are directly connected to Test Points are the already mentioned WKUP_GPIO0_6 and WKUP_GPIO0_52. So my questions are:

- Which GPIOs from the main domain are best suited for this task?

- How can I determine which TP is best suited for a specific GPIO?

- If there is no GPIO from the Main domain, which is directly connected to a TP, how is this routing done?

Thanks for your help und best regards,

Felix

  • There are not many spare pins available on the EVM for general testing.  Most GPIO are connected to peripherals for controlling various interfaces.

Test Point TP120 on the SOM module is connected to schematic net TIMER_IO0 and is unused.  This connects to pin V6 of the processor.

The data manual for the processors shows that pin supports GPIO1_13

Below shows the location of TP120:

  • Hi Robert,

    thank you for the information.

I added the corresponding pinmux to the device tree file and I was able to set GPIO1_13 to HIGH during boot (at  6.656731 sec) and I could also verify it with a scope.

However, later in the boot process (at around 18 sec), there is some clocking signal (maybe SYSCLKOUT0?) on TP120 which cancels out my previous HIGH command. I checked all device trees for pin V6 of the processor, but there is only the one occurence which I previously added.

Is there maybe an alternative TP to use for MAIN_GPIO? Or is there a way to deactivate this clocking signal on TP120? (I am using the latest PSDKL release (07.02.00)).

    Thanks again.

  • Hi Felix,

Once booted to prompt, can you check the pinmux value for the PAD V6? Does it still has MUX MODE 7 for GPIO1_13? Use devmem2 to dump register from userspace.

Can you also please check one thing, do not configure the GPIO in device tree but instead use the sysfs to configure it from user space. Do pinmux this in the DTS. Please report back this result.

You can refer https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/processors-forum/918654/faq-tda4vm-dra829-am65xx-linux-configuring-gpios to do it.

    Regards,

    Karan
