dm3730 extended temperature and opp1G

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM3730

Hello,

I am a bit confused and would be happy if someone could clear some things for me.

The DM3730 comes in extended temperature mode which allows for operate at junction tempratures of -40 - 105 C. However, it says in the data sheet that opp1G is not supported for Tj of above 90C.

Does this mean that I cannot order a dm37 with extended temp range thas works at 1G (i.e dm3730 CUS D 100)? or does it simply mean that I have to make sure that my design is such that Tj doesn't rise above 90?

More on the same topic - is there some general estimation as to relationship between the ambient temperature and the junction temperature as a function of the power\workig mode of the CPU?

Thanks in advance,

   Eldad

It's latter. You would need to make sure Tj is less than 90C when the device operates at OPP1G for reliability.

The thermal characteristics for DM37x is described in the section 6.1 Package Thermal Characteristics in the datasheet. You would need to estimate the power for your use case to estimate the Tj from Ta or Tc. For estimating the power for your use case, you could use the power spreadsheet available from the wiki. It's for a different device but there is a good app note on this topic.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your reply - It clears up a lot.

The link to the 'app note' you posted seems to be broken - when I click it the browser goes to an error page saying "group not found". Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Elad

  • Sorry for the bad link. I have corrected it. Please try it again. In case it doesn't work, here is the link to the app note.

  • Hello,

Is there a difference in the reliability between the extended temperature version and the industrial one?

If the junction temperature is 90C or less, do the two versions have the same performance?

There's a table on page 119 of the datasheet that describes the device's POH as a function of temperature and operating frequency. Does this table refer to all temperature versions?

    Thanks,
