PROCESSOR-SDK-AM335X: SDK 06_01_00_08 Touch Not Working

Customer reported AM335x Starter Kit touch screen is not working with SDK 06_01_00_08. The touch screen worked fine with SDK 05.05.00.00 that shipped with the kit.

Another customer reported a similar issue and it's noted in the SDK release notes:

Is there's a workaround for the issue? And most importantly, since this looks like a software issue, is this issue limited to starter kit or for any touchscreen interface?

Hello Mark,

We are seeing issues with Qt/matrix receiving touch inputs on AM335x Linux SDK 6.1 and SDK 6.3. Touch inputs can still be seen through evtest and fingerpaint test as in my reply here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/processors-forum/973162/processor-sdk-am335x-touch-not-working-with-matrix-gui-for-am335x-starter-kit/3647861#3647861

We are still looking at root cause and workarounds. One option would be to use the AM335x SDK with Linux 5.4 that will be released in a month or so.

Thanks for the reply. I'm assuming this issue would affect any other touchscreen on the current SDK version? The customer's HW uses a different touch screen. Hence the question.

Is the issue fixed on the next SDK release you referenced?

Hello Mark,

We are observing the issue on both AM335x EVM and AM335x Starter Kit, which are both resistive touch where the touchscreen inputs come in through the ADC. We have not been able to test a capacitive touch screen. What kind of screen is the customer using?

Let me get confirmation from the development team that everything is working as expected on the Linux 5.4 SDK candidate. Please ping me if I have not replied by the end of the week.

Hi Nick,

Customer is using resistive touch. They can see touch screen data received at the kernel level but not at the Qt level.

Any updates on the next AM335x SDK release timeline?

Is the touch screen issue fixed?
Will there be an upgrade from Linux Kernel v4.19 to newer versions in this release?

Thanks for the ping. It looks like touchscreen is able to provide input to matrix GUI on the Linux 5.4 SDK release for AM335x. We are planning on releasing the AM335x Linux SDK with Linux kernel 5.4 in about a month.
