TMS320C6678: DDR3 Recommended Devices

Part Number: TMS320C6678

Hello,

I am working on a new design and need to select the DDR3 devices. I’ve been planning on a 32-bit configuration using 2Gb / (16M × 16 × 8) × 2 SDRAMs at a 1333MT/s rate. I see the requirement to use JEDEC JESD79-3C compliant devices and I have read SPRABI1C (DDR3 Design Requirements). I would very much like to use Zentel A3T2GF40CBF-HPOA devices since we have those designed into other boards. The Zentel datasheet states JEDEC compliance but cites different versions of the standard such as JESD79-3F and JESD79-3-1A.01.

Are these versions of the JEDEC standard backward-compatible such that they comply with JESD79-3C?

Is there a list of DDR3 recommended devices for the TMS320C6678?

The Zentel datasheet can be found at: http://www.zentel.com/Products_List_en.html  > Select the DDR3 Page > 7th one down from the top.

  • Larry,

TI doesn't have direct experience with that particular DDR vendor and we don't have a list of recommended DDR3 devices.  One safe way to go is with whatever memory is on the C6678 EVM.

That said, the JEDEC spec differences between 3C and 3F should not be an issue.  The 3F part should be backwards compatible to our 3C controller.

    Regards,

    Kyle

  • Hi Kyle,

Thanks for your help. It is good to know that the 3F part we are already using in some of our other designs is compatible.

    Regards,

    Larry
