OMAP-L138 Schematic Review Checklist and Datasheet discrepancy

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138, AM1808

I am going through the Schematic Review Checklist for the OMAP-L138 located in Wiki page here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/OMAP-L13x_/_C674x_/_AM1x_Schematic_Review_Checklist#Decoupling_Capacitors.  In the section on decoupling capactitors the checklist directs to go to datasheet section for power supply decoupling.  There is no such section in the datasheet for OMAP-L138 (also not in C6748 or AM1808 DS).  Why is there no information on decoupling caps in the DS?  Seems like either the DS or the Wiki article needs to be changed so they are in agreement.  If decision is to not put decoupling info into the DS for some reason, I'd like to see this info in some document.

Regards.

  • I can't find any recommendations either.  Does anyone know where the recommendations are?

    Thanks,

    Cliff

  • Tommy,

I did a quick search for 'capacitor' and found quite a few peripheral specific sections that highlight recommended power supply decoupling.

  • Tom/Cliff,

Let me explain a little bit about the structure of the schematic review.  Everything that appears under the "General Recommendations" chapter is totally generic info that was not written specifically for OMAP-L138.  I attempted to make this more clear by putting the entire section in a giant gray box with the following heading at the top:

THIS SECTION IS TRANSCLUDED FROM HARDWARE DESIGN CHECKLIST. ONLY INFO GENERIC TO ALL DEVICES BELONGS HERE SINCE IT APPEARS IN ALL SCHEMATIC CHECKLISTS.

That section appears in every single schematic review checklist.  It started out as a stand-alone article that I wrote (prior to the device-specific checklists) as sort of a catch-all for doing schematic reviews.  The info is for the most part applicable to any device which is why we make it show up under all the individual schematic review checklists.

Sorry for the confusion.  If you have suggestions for how I can make this better please let me know.

As for OMAP-L138 there are some capacitor recommendations for the DDR interface as well as some of the Serdes.  We don't provide recommendations for all rails.  In that case you might want to use the EVM as an example.

    Best regards,
    Brad
