OMAP 3503 and Non DOTCLK displays

Hello, Does the OMAP 3503 support displays that don't use a DOTCLK interface? I'm working on a project where raw display performance is not an issue (not playing video, Just a GUI, Maybe some crude animations where 10fps is more then enough) . Resolution and size, however, are more important and i'm aiming for a 320x240 TFT color LCD at around 2-2.4". After doing some digging, The DOTCLK displays seem to be on the order of 3.5 inches and up starting at 320x240 and climbing in resolution.  The displays at around the size and resolution i want all have controllers with integrated framebuffers.

I was thinking of hooking the display up via GPIO and writing my own /dev/fb driver with a mirror in ram that gets periodically dumped out to the device using a kernel timer. However I'm not sure how well this would perform and how much CPU resources would be consumed. Has anyone done this and is willing to share any advice? Am i simply wrong about the capabilities of the 3503? Are DOTCLK displays available in smaller sizes?
