LVDS ds90ur241/ds90ur124 serializer/deserializer usage on ARM335X

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UR124, DS90UR241

I wish to use a remote display for a processing unit based on the Sitara AM335x.

The display is a simple WQVGA with 16 or 18 bit RGB data, HSync, VSync, Clock and DE with resistive TS

The Display should be up to 2m far from the processing unit.

I am tempted to use the DS90UR241/DS90UR124 ser/des system by TI to drastically reduce the cable complexity.

Has anyone tried to use these devices with the AM335x to drive a remote display?

And what about remoting the reistive TS? Is there any chance to use a shielded cable to directly connect the reistive TS interface to the AM335x without a specific TS controller?

  • Hi Luigi,

There are some posts related to your question:

The  DS90UR241/DS90UR124 serdes chipset should work. Don't forget to check the AM335X Errata section 3.1 for correct color assignments of LCD_DATA Terminals.

However about a remote TS I definitely think that you should use a TS controller close to the TS and find a secure way to transmit data to/from the processor (2 meters is quite a distance).
  • Dear Biser,

Thank you for your kind support.

I tried to define the schematics for both serializer and de-serializer circuitry. You can find the schematics below:

It would be great if you can check it for major errors.

With reference to the Touch Screen, I certainly could provide an UART  TS controller on the display side, but I also wish to reduces the device cost so I would like to better understand why the Sitara 4 wire interface cannot be used to directly interface the panel with a properly shielded cable and by filtering the signals at the Sitara ends with relatively large capacitors towards ground.

Is there any reference design or tips that I can see regarding this issue?

    Thanks in advance,

    Luigi

  • Hi Luigi,

I am sorry, but we are cannot do design reviews on the forum. If you want a design review you should request one by contacting your TI representative/FAE.

As for the TSC, I haven't seen a directly connected remote resistive touchscreen solution so far. I don't think adding filtering capacitors is a good idea, as they would be charged/discharged through the TSC pins and results can be unpredictable.
