MAC to MAC Ethernet communication using MII interface between two AM3359 processors or between AM3359 and another TI's TMS570 processor.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3359

Hi,

I am using TI’s Sitara AM3359 processor. So we were doing Ethernet communication using MII interface between two AM3359 processors  but we didn’t got success. Later on after checking to your TI forum i found that AM3359 does not support MAC to MAC communication. So please can you ensure from your technical support team whether AM3359 supports MAC to MAC communication with another TMS570 processor which has an Ethernet support.

I raised the same query to TI technical support members they provided following below link:-

https://e2e.ti.com/support/arm/sitara_arm/f/791/t/366759

Now I read the post provided by TI through link, but it does not clearly specify whether AM3359 MAC to MAC communication is working or not. I just want the answer Yes/No and if Yes/No then justification why it is Yes/No.

Thanks Regards,

Sanket Shinde

  • Hi,

Quoting from the post you mentioned:

    1. The MAC to MAC use case was not considered by the design team nor ever tested by silicon validation or application teams.

    2. There may be use cases where this works, but is not a use case we support. In other words, if you go this path and have issues you would be on your own.

    3. There is at least one known case of a customer connecting the AM335x MAC (RMII) directly to the MAC of another processor and found it worked reliably.

In short, this use case is not supported by TI.
