Linux/AM3352: DDR3 memory replacement

Part Number: AM3352

Tool/software: Linux

Hi,

I am re-opening this issue beacuse the answer can't be found:

Because a Memory "DDR3 MT41K256M16HA-125:E" phases out, it has been to replaceed. From Micron's side the Memory Type "MT41K256M16TW-107:P" has been proposed as replacement.

But the CAS Latency of "MT41K256M16TW-107:P" is not matched with TI am3352 supported latencyThe CAS Latency of "MT41K256M16TW-107:P" is 13 and Max CAS Latency supported by AM3352 is 11.

Attached Figure from P.932@TI AM3352 TRM:

Attached Figure is from MICRON DDR3L SDRAM MT41K256M16TW-107:P SPEC

Is there any resolution or workaround about this?

Br,

Josko

  • Hi,

MT41K256M16TW-107:P has CL=13 at 1.07ns cycle time, which is 933MHz DDR clock rate. AM335x can support maximum 400MHz DDR clock rate, or 2.5ns cycle time. At 2.5ns cycle time MT41K256M16TW-107:P uses CL = 6, which can be seen from the Speed bin table in the DDR datasheet.
  • Hi,

I have completely overlooked the situation and stick on the previous thread.
As you have just said, the max. speed supported by AM335x was 400MHZ (2.5ns, CL=6) and actaully all speed bins from Micron can be used as all of them support 400MHz (CL=6).

    Thanks in any case.

    Br,
    Josko
