AM3358: AM3358 new design does not boot from SD card (no serial debug output)

I have a custom design based off the Beaglebone Black. I have checked clocks and power and all seems good but when trying to boot from SD card there is no debug output. I am using the same SD card that I use on the BBB and it works there.

Realizing this is a very broad issue and there are many possible causes what would be the top 5 places to look after power and clock verification?

Hello Ted,

The top 5 places to look after power and clock verification are your board's: EEPROM, DDR, PMIC, UART and MMC settings.

Hi Kemal,

First thing that stands out is right now there is nothing programmed in the EEPROM on my board. I wasn't sure what should go there and/or if it was important.

Ultimately the software needs to think this is identical to the Beaglebone Black hardware. Would there be a way to configure Uboot to not read EEPROM, but instead return the Beaglebone configuration so everything boots accordingly?

If not then, is JTAG the only way to program the EEPROM with the correct codes and where can I find the codes for my hardware?

Yes, there is. Please, see this post.

You can find the BBB's EEPROM content in the Internet and program it by using the commands in the linked article in this post. JTAG is not needed.

Thanks for your help so far, a couple more questions. Where can I find the appropriate Beagle Black uboot source, toolchain, etc. and in what file(s) would I make the changes? Is there already a patch that makes it look like a AM3358? Thanks!

You can download the latest Processor SDK from here. This is the latest Getting Started Guide. You can find the patch attached in this post. It is for BBB.
