DRA77P: Android Oreo 8.1 - random artifacts on letter/number/graphics object

Hi Michele,

Could you check if there are any EGL related errors or warnings in Android logcat?
Previously you mentioned that this is observed in regular SDK as well (non vDRM), for ease of debug can we stick to regular SDK for this?

Hi Vishal,

There are no related oe EGL errors in logcat when artifact appears.

Yes, without VDRM, I see artifact, so to debug this problem we can continue to use the environment without VDRM (this is the old solution, so I'll check also the environment with VDRM).

I report some behaviour observed using a Navigation App to debug the artifacts:

- the artifact appears only when the view change: during navigation, I open click on nav settings button, and a different view with many strings or objects is shown on display, sometimes appears artifacts;

- in this case, if I click on SettingsButton, I enter in Settings and the App Navigation goes in Pause, manage the "onPause()" event;

- if I press the back button I reenter in Navigation App and the artifacts are still present,, the app manage " onResume()" event;

- then, if I click on SettingsButton again, I enter in Settings and the App Navigation goes in Pause, manage the "onPause()" event; If I press othe button in Settings the Navigation App ends , remove the surface "onSurfaceDestroyed" and manage "onStop()" event to end the activity;

- if I press the back button two times,I reenter in Navigation App and the artifacts are NOT present: in logcat about Navigation app I saw

EGL3 is not available                                                                                                                                      
onSurfaceCreated                                                                                                                                            
Renderer: PowerVR SGX 544MP                                                                                                                              

NOTE: when the app start after bootup I saw also 

OpenGLRenderer: Initialized EGL, version 1.4

Artifacts appears randomly on a Surface, destroying and recreating the surface artifatcs disappears.

sorry for my late response.

Here is the logcat files:

- "mylogcat_11_03_start.txt" is logcat during start of the board;

- "mylogcat_11_03.txt" is the logcat from start of ap used for Navigation and the appearance of artifacts

As Navigation app I used "Genius map" release 2.2.21; iìI found also recent version 2.6.0, maybe you can try to reproduce on your evm the artifacts…

During the test I saw this artifact (see red lines - all 'a' are damaged)

I'll try to give you other logcat coming from our Qt app with aritfact.

Hi Michele,

I tried this app on 6AO.1.1 Android SDK and I am not seeing the issue.
I am simulating the driver and in middle of drive I am switching to settings and exiting settings screen.

How many tries does it take to see this behavior?

very thanks for your test.

In my case I have to simulate a navigation from "Milano" to "Roma", a long trip, then after the simulation is started I can see artifatcs in these cases:

1. doing notinh, just waiting about 5 or 10 minutes, in the name of road could appear artifacts (the name of road change during the trip..);

2. changin view going in the navigation settings (not in Settings of Android) which is the highway object, In this case a new view with many strings appear, adn sometimes could be artifact;

In our Other environment with VDRM, and a QT application on secondary display, Artifacts appears in an image object:

we have three z-layer, z=0 is android mirror screen; z=1 is QT application which draw on all the display overlapping all android mirror; z=2 are only some object Always visible

we have artifacts on z=1

Could depend on the display settings?

we have two displays 1280x800 12'' , I disabled the "frameworks/native/build/tablet-7in-hdpi-1024-dalvik-heap.mk" present in device.mk but I see Always aritfacts

Could depends from memory , you are using 4GB , instead we are using 2GB...

Hi Vishal,

I tryed you suggestion, unfortunately it has the same behaviour: artifact.

If could help you, I describe what I have seen using the QT app:

- board is off for many time, I boot-up the board and the Qt app didn't have artifacts;

- I restarted the board (switch off, wait 1 sec, switch ON), and the Qt app showed artifact;

- I restarted Qt app (not the board) and the artifact dissapeared;

About dissapearing of artifact restarting the owner thread/app of the rendering, maybe couldbe the same in Android:  I did the test restarting surface_flinger, but all Android restarted...

The Graphics IP on Jacinto 6 processors is from Imagination technologies. Graphics DDK (user space libraries) is delivered by them.

Could you try testing the attached SGX DDK on regular Android O-MR1 setup and check if this resolves the issue?

thanks, I'll test on the MR1 release, and I'll let you know.

Looking forward, we need the sgx.tgz to be used with VDRM, now we are using solution with VDRM + Qt app, and we see artifacts in the Qt app.

Please could you share the lib and binary for VDRM? Now in our VDRM system we use sgx.tgz generated from "AndroidvDrmDemoPackage-2.1-linux"

the sgx.tgz you attached seems has NO artifact in Navigation app, I did the same test done months ago on NO VDRM system.
