IWR6843ISK: 360 antenna radiation pattern for full DCA assembly

Part Number: IWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM, MMWAVEICBOOST

Hi,

I saw the following thread that talks about the 360 antenna radiation pattern for the antenna only.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/749295/iwr6843isk-antenna-performances/2775143#2775143

I am looking for the 360 radiation pattern when the IWR6843ISK radar board is assembled onto the MMWAVEICBOOST card which is also mounted on the DCA1000EVM capture card (as shown below)

Can you share information for the above assembly?

Regards,

Cagri

  • Hello Cagri,

The antenna patter will be identical whether the board is mounted to DCA1000/ICBOOST or used in standalone mode. What was mentioned in that thread is still applicable here.

  • Hi Adrian,

    Thank you for your response.

To make sure I understand this, the radiation pattern of the radar sensor will not change in anyway despite the presence of copper and other metals within the PCBs mounted behind the sensor board itself. Is my understanding correct? I was under the impression that presence of such materials would warp the radiation pattern to some extent (due to reflections and scattering from the materials in close proximity of the transmitter)

    Regards,

    Cagri

  • Yes, you are correct. Any obstructions behind the board will not impact the radiation pattern. Large metal objects within the FOV might cause false detections, but in this case everything is outside of the FOV of the sensor and will not cause any obstruction or false detections.

    Regards,

    Adrian
