LDC1614EVM: device not seen by laptop

Hi all,

By accident I uploaded the Rev A firmware on my recently acquired LDC1614EVM. Now the D3 LED blinks red twice when connecting to USB, but the D2 LED does not turn green. Neither can I find it among the USB devices. I do hear the "connection made" sound by Windows. Can someone help me to resolve this issue?

Hello Jim,

You can re-flash the EVM following these directions:

Q1: I have 'bricked' my LDC1312, LDC1314, LDC1612, or LDC1614 EVM during a failed firmware upload attempt. What can I do to restore functionality?

Hi Justin,

Thanks! I will try this. After shorting C29 to R6, the device should again show up in the EVM GUI? I am seeing it in Windows, but the GUI is not picking it up.

Cause I am having another issue with a different LDC1614EVM that is sometimes not recognized by Windows. Do you have any tip toward solving that?

Hello Jim,

Shorting C29 and R6 will allow for the EVM to be flashed again. After re-flashing the device, then it should show up in the GUI.

For the one that is not recognized, does it connect to the GUI when it is recognized? What does it show as in the device manager when it does connect?

Hi Justin,

In the FAQ, a user guide is referred on how to flash the firmware on the EVM. Problem is that is to be done through the GUI right? So what user guide am I missing in order to get that done?

Yes, when it shows up as a COM port device the GUI picks it up. Otherwise it is under the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" as unknown device. For that unknown device I cannot make any changes. This would point to an issue with my laptop I guess. Replugging a few times into different ports fixes the issues. Hopefully this work around will stay valid throughout my prototyping phase.

Hello Jim,

It seems the guide for flashing the EVM in BSL mode is not currently online. Please follow the instructions on using the python firmware upgrader in the following thread:

I have confirmed that this will work once the EVM is put into BSL mode. Shorting the EVM before powering it up will put it in BSL and then you can remove the short once the EVM is powered up.

For your other EVM, you can try this process as well or try reinstalling the EVM driver if switching ports no longer works.
