IWR1843BOOST: IWR1843BOOST

Part Number: IWR1843BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST

Hi,

I'm trying to capture data with IWR1843BOOST, DCA1000 & mmWaveStudio.  This all works, but doesn't do what I need, so I'm going to have to try to alter the s/w.

I'm downloading:

C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_03_05_00_04\firmware\radarss\xwr18xx_radarss_rprc.bin
C:\ti\mmwave_studio_02_01_01_00\rf_eval_firmware\masterss\xwr18xx_masterss.bin

> so the first question is: is the source available for 18xx_masterss, or which of the labs (e.g. OOB demo ... needs to work with IWR/DCA as above) should I use instead?

I have CCS installed and working, and can compile a lab e.g. OOB demo successfully (both mss & dss compile OK).  However, when I try to debug this, I get the error:

blackhawk LAN560 emulator_0/CS_DAP_0, with text

Error initializing emulator:
(Error -2083 @ 0x0)
Unable to communicate with the debug probe. Confirm debug probe configuration and connections, reset the debug probe, and retry the operation.
(Emulation package 9.4.0.00129)

>Is this something I've done wrong in CCS setup?

>Is there something else (s/w or h/w) I need?

>Is there some difference in the IWR setup for this?  I've got the SP switches in debug mode

Modifying the s/w seems to have lots of layers - so much to learn and assimilate!

Many thanks

Alan

  • Hello

Regarding the issue posted in this thread - please help us understand which of the following is the scenario

    1. You have tried the EVM + DCA1000 capture board  to collect RAW sensor data but you are having issues with getting the setup to work

    or

    2. You have the RAW data capture setup working and you are able to collect raw data but you wish to do something else for which modification of code etc is the support needed.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav

We have sent you a message to understand  the intentions of you application better, please check your private messages.

  • Hi Vaibhav,

thanks for the reply - I'm looking at scenario 2.

I have the IWR/DCA working fine with the supplied code, but I need to try to do something a bit different.  I need to think about changing the s/w (mss I presume), thus I need to get the development environment all set up.  CCS seems to work OK for editing, compiling & linking example code (e.g. oob demo etc), but  I then need to get the code onto the IWR and run it ... presumably using the debug is the way to do this?  However I get the error I copied into the first question.

I'm connected to the IWR with USB & CCS recognised this during start up, so I think the connection is OK.

    many thanks

    Alan

  • Hello

Thank you for confirming that the data collection flow is working and you are able to get the required Raw data for analysis.

For modifying the code on the device and developing software for mmWave device please see the Mmwave SDK/ and OOB demo example  related offering for the devices.

You may find the following a good way to start  mmWave Devices -->   Design & development  --> Development -->

Also check the Design related FAQ under

[FAQ] PLEASE READ : mmWave Forum Guidelines and FAQ Thread

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav

Please check and respond to the the private message sent you here so as to help you better.

  • Hi Vaibhav,

thanks for the links - good information, I had already downloaded most of it.

I think my immediate need for help is in getting the development environment set up and working right the way through.  This is in two parts:

    1:

I need s/w to start with.  I have programmed the IWR with the mss (see first entry for full name etc).  I need either the source for this OR to know if one of the provided labs/experiments (for which source is already provided) will give me the same functionality.

As I'm taking raw ADC samples out via DCA1000, it may be that most of the labs would be OK - I only need to set up chirps/frames etc rather than implementing any specific radar processing on the IWR.

    2:

I will need to load my modified s/w onto the IWR and see what it does - so I'll need the debug functions.

As shown in my first mail, I get errors when I try to run this in CCS (10.4.0).  Can you help me find out what is wrong here and fix it?

    many thanks

    Alan

  • Hi again,

delving a bit further... in SDK docs it says CCS should emulate using ""Texas Instruments XDS110 USB Debug Probe".  However, in CONFIGURATIONS:PROGRAM:DEVICE it's only giving me blackhawk choices.

Have I done something wrong in stalling CCS and its options?

    thanks

    Alan

  • Hi,

a bit further again, and I might as well keep trying things here in the meantime - CCS is training me!  I've got the XDS110 debugger selected ("Target Configs" wasn't the page I thought it was).  I can do a "TEST CONNECTION" and this passes OK, but the debug still fails with message (cortex):

    Error connecting to the target:
    (Error -2062 @ 0x0)
Unable to halt device. Reset the device, and retry the operation. If error persists, confirm configuration, power-cycle the board, and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK).
    (Emulation package 9.4.0.00129)

I believe SP lines on IWR are set to debug mode - same as used with mmWaveSTudio setup.

    Must be close now!

    thanks again

    Alan

  • Hello

Did you get a chance to look at the messages sent to you so as to get the right support in place for your application.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav

  • Hi Vaibhav,

I think I'm missing something - private message? Is that on here (does it look different, some other way of accessing it so I know its private?), or sent to my e-mail address?  I certainly get notifications which seem to match the entries on here.

Sorry if I'm doing something wrong in how I'm using the forum!

    thanks

    Alan

  • Hi Vaibhav,

If I look at the messages icon (I think that's what you mean by top right corner), it says no unread messages. However I can find one in there that starts "e2e rocks" - II assume that's what you're pointing me to? However, the links in there don't work - they're all "page not found".

I'm always interested in doing things the right way and interacting in ways that help you understand my issues and thereby how best to help.  However at the moment I don't know what know what I seem to be doing wrong or how to fix it ... I've tried to describe the issue (I have two at the moment), I've included error messages and the version of CCS I've got etc.

    many thanks

    Alan

  • Hi Alan,

It must have been the support team checking on your messaging feature.

If you hover over user's name a pop-up should show up- wonder if you see that.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav

  • Hi Vaibhav,

I'm really not sure where we're at now  - I have no messages showing (except admin 3 months ago).  Am I supposed to be marking you as a friend (I may have managed this already) and then continuing as private messages?

    many thanks

    Alan

  • Hello

    1. Do you see my user name visible on thread

    2. If yes --> when you hover mouse over my username do you see a popup like i have attached in previous response

    3. If pop up appears  -> pleas post a snapshot of options you see in popup.

Let us know where in the above set of steps do you get stuck.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav

  • Hi Vaibhav,

yes! It now shows your previous quedtion in "messages", and I get the hover-over as attached.dropDown.docx

  • Hello

Before going further into  topics related to  debug prove and code modification, wanted to highlight the following about the RAW data capture flow:

RAW data capture flow   (typically using TI's mmWave EVM + DCA1000 + mmWave Studio)  is  fixed application that TI provides to Data collection feature for algorithm development.  The images provided for this application are closed and TI doesn't provide source code for any of these images. Users are expected to use the images + Host SW to capture and analyze the RAW data.

Having conveyed the above lets look  the queries you have listed:

TI Response:   Source code equivalent to  for RAW Data capture images is not provided.     TI proved OOB demo and various post-processing software examples via TIRex. These can be used as start point for your development and post processing of Data on capable mmWave device.   Most of these examples are not meant to provide the RAW data out on LVDS but to serve as processing example.

To see an example that does post processing and simultaneously send RAW data out over the LVDS port see the Out of Box demo (OOB) provided as part of mmWave SDK or referenced via TIREx.

    2:

I will need to load my modified s/w onto the IWR and see what it does - so I'll need the debug functions.

As shown in my first mail, I get errors when I try to run this in CCS (10.4.0).  Can you help me find out what is wrong here and fix it?

    many thanks

TI Response:  Code Composer Studio (CCS) is the IDE for debug and development. Before going to the BH debugger can you please help us confirm if the basic setup via onboard XDS110 (vis mmWaveICBoost) . For detailed help on CCS debug and setup  please file a new thread so that resolution can be independently pursued.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav
