AWR1843BOOST: Why AWR1642ODS can detect the objects in short range much better than AWR1643Boost with USRR mode?

We use automotive demo mrr and AWR1843Boost, but we find AWR1642ODS and lab demo ODS can detect the objects in short range much better. Can you please explain why AWR1642ODS can detect the objects in short range much better? Is it because of antenna design or the algorithm?

Hi,

This is in part due to range based pruning implemented in the processing chain in the MRR lab. Obstacle detection lab does not implement this. My response in that thread mentions how to remove this functionality from the demo.

Another difference is that the ODS demo uses a larger bandwidth. This enables it to resolve objects that are closer together.

Finally, the ODS EVM antenna layout by it's very design allows for a larger FOV. So, if objects are at oblique angles to the radar, the ODS EVM will be able to better illuminate and better detect the reflections coming from oblique angles. You can see and compare the antenna patterns of ODS/non ODS EVMs by referring to the EVM datasheets.
