IWR6843AOPEVM: SYNC_OUT functionality

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843AOP

I am trying to synchronize two iwr6843aopevms together. I have successfully done this by connecting a function generator to both SYNC_IN pins and configuring both radars to hardwareTriggeredMode. Now I am trying to connect the SYNC_OUT pin from one radar to the SYNC_IN pin on another radar and configuring only one to hardwareTriggeredMode but there doesn't seem to be any signal coming out on the SYNC_OUT. How do I get the frame trigger to output on this signal line?

Ideally what I would like to do is connect both the SYNC_IN lines together and then when I configure one radar to hardwareTriggeredMode it will listen on the SYNC_IN and when I configure the other radar to be in softwareTriggeredMode it will output a trigger on the SYNC_IN line. This way it is very easy to scale this with more than two radars. is there a way for me to configure it this way?

  • Hello,

SYNC_OUT  signals are designed for chip to chip cascading with LO (Local oscillator synchronized) configuration where Primary mmWave sensor would be triggering secondary device. In IWR6843AOP device doesn't have chip to chip cascading facility SYNC_OUT signaling feature is not present.

    However,

You could use below clock driver scheme to trigger multiple mmWave sensor. You could configure all the mmWave sensors to hardware trigger configuration, When the master Sync_in signal is issued then all the mmWavesensors could be triggered at a time.

    Thanks and regards,
