Is AWR2243BOOST powerful enough to support the processing needed in a full MIMO radar solution (3Tx by 4Rx 4D radar) without a host PC for processing? I am referring to real-time processing on the board without a need for the DCA.

Hello Daniel,

The AWR2243 device is a RF transceiver front end only device and not a standalone programmable SOC. It must be used together with a host processor (FPGA, DCA1000, or any other) for any evaluation purposes.

AWR2243 device can be controlled or communicated over only SPI or I2C interface where External processor can send configuration command over these interfaces to configure the RF front end and later device (at frame trigger) will stream out RAW ADC data over LVDS/CSI-2 (based on configuration).

Thanks for your response. I am actually referring to AWR2243BOOST (and not the chip only). It looks to have an external MCU on board.

Can I load my processing program on AWR2243BOOST and carry the signal processing I need? What are the limitations?

Hello Daniel,

Yes, my response is applicable to the booster pack EVM as well. The AWR2243Boost is just an evaluation board for the AWR2243 mmWave high-performance front end.

It mainly provides onboard antenna and enables raw capture of ADC data from the front end using a 60-pin high density (HD) connector, for data over CSI, or the high-speed debug interface(LVDS). Below is a high level block diagram of the boost EVM :

You would still need an external host for processing and other applications.

Do you have a recommendation on which TI mcu/processor works best as an external processing host for AWR2243?

Hello Daniel,

We have a processor SDK that provides example with the TDA processor (https://www.ti.com/tool/download/PROCESSOR-SDK-RADAR#downloads).

But in general any processor can be used that meets your processing requirements. There is no restriction.
