LDC1614: Question SNOA944

Part Number: LDC1614

Hi,

Can you help me put the data presented in this application note into context? For instance, Figure 3 has f_sensor/f_ref on the x-axis, but I'm interested into what I can take as f_sensor. Is this the open space frequency, e.g. without target interaction? Or is this with the target closest to the sensor?

Thanks in advance for the answer!

Kind regards,

Jim

  • Jim,

Figure 3 is a bit theoretical in the sense it shows the possible resolution for the condition of a target and sensor moving over a range

These devices aren't like the traditional A/D converters.
They are oscillators with programmable axis-crossing counters where you are specifying the number of axis crossings via RCOUNT as shown in equation (1).
So the resolution is dependent on the interactions between RCOUNT, fsensor and fref as the sensor-target distance changes.
This point is discussed more in the text supporting Table 3.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    John
