Hi,

I see that you have installed the EVM on the car which is very close to the road surface.

This will get lot of reflection from the road surface which may cause the false positives.

Yes, I will try to fix the RADAR(as mentioned in the video).

But, Can you please clarify me the following:

1) Even if I had increased the Elevation Value(Z Value) from 0 to 0.3/0.5?, would the reflections from the ROAD still matters??, If the RADAR position is same as Closer to ROAD?

2) Can you please share me a config file(along with Elevation), where the obstacle(Car / Bus / Truck / Mini Truck) is detected at at least 50 meters?, As of now, In my testing, I only get the Obstacle detection on highways at 20 meters.

Note -- I am using MMWAVE DEMO VISUALIZER to get the Config file, Can you please let me know, how it's different from XDS EMULATION PACKAGE?

Hi Guru,

            To achieve more range as per your requirement, you would need to increase your sampling frequency or reduce the slope as per formula given in slide 15 of this pdf: https://training.ti.com/sites/default/files/docs/mmwaveSensing-FMCW-offlineviewing_4.pdf . 

            To get a better range and with more configurations you could probably use the sensing estimator available at: https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/mmwave/mmWaveSensingEstimator/ver/1.4.0/ . Using these appropriate values would probably help you understand and achieve better range.

             I did not get the point of where we set elevation (z value) in cfg file. Could you please point me to that? Also, I can probably let you know about the cfg file for 50m distance mid-next week as this a long weekend.

Thanks a ton for your detailed response.

I will use the mmwave sensing estimator and Check the current range, also I will work on the formula to improve the range.

Please note, Z value is the elevation value representation in my Code, During my previous discussions with TI, I received few config files to check the range, I tested the config files with my code, I could see the range increased to 40+ meters, but I noticed there were loads of false positives than usual, I noticed that only 2 Chrip Values are given (then I assumed that the third Chrip is for elevation).

Can you please correct me, if I am wrong.

Please find the attached Config Files shared to me from TI, I have used MMWAVE DEMO VISUALIZER to inject in the files to AWR1843BOOST EVM and I have tested. I couldn't get the obstacle detection at the distance of 50 meters or even 30 meters.

Can you please let me know, if there is any problem with the Config files Or Can you please correct me, if I have not followed the correct process

After this, I have tried to create my own config and made an attempt, after analyzed the data frame by frame, we concluded that the range of obstacle detection at highways and inside city as 20 meters(including large obstacles such as Bus, Trucks) and also we encountered with the blast of false positives on empty road, Please find the attached config, that I have used

Can you please let me know, if there is a need to change any specific data in the MMWAVE DEMO VISUALIZER to get the config right for the range of 50 meters and minimising the false positives.

            Thanks for sharing the config files. The dmax from your config files looks fine. Can you please try the MRR lab in TI resource explorer: https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=APkoqQrDmfEOWhcyZY68WA__AocYeEd__LATEST with the AWR1843 boost EVM (try running the binaries of MRR) and see if you are able to detect objects at 50m? I am not sure if you are using MRR lab now also.

Can you please let me know, if there is any other factors like radar cross section value or any other value other than dmax value (from mmwave demo visualizer) plays any role in setting the range?

Hi Guru,

             Ideally there should be no other factors influencing dmax as we have a mmWave radar training which suggests the same (https://training.ti.com/intro-mmwave-sensing-fmcw-radars-module-1-range-estimation?context=1128486-1139153-1128542) . Can you please let me know if you are using the your own Signal processing chain and in meanwhile try if MRR lab works for distance=50m?
