MMWCAS-RF-EVM: Angular and Elevation resolution

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM

Hi TI,

Thanks for the wonderful support so far. I do have some questions with regards to the MMWCAS-RF-EVM angular resolution.

1. Previously you mentioned that the theoretical vertical angular (elevation) resolution is about 18deg. Can I kindly check how is this derived?

2. What about the horizontal angular (azimuth resolution) in both MIMO and Tx Beamforming mode. From my understanding, the MIMO mode should cover a wider range of angles, while the Tx beamforming covers a smaller range of angles however with a much higher power (which translates to a longer distance)

3. Hence, what are the azimuth coverage angles (in the horizontal axis) and approximate max effective distance for both MIMO and Tx Beamforming, and what is the approximate azimuth resolution for both MIMO and Tx Beamforming?

Your help is much appreciated. Thank You.

  • Hi,

I would recommend to look at the design guide of cascade EVM. TIDUEN5A.

    1. The angular resolution depends the total antenna elements and spacing between them. The azimuth or elevation resolution depends on the number of antenna elements in horizontal and vertical respectively. With one of the device's TX channels spaced vertically, allowing the resolution equivalent to 7 antennas. The angular resolution from formula comes to 18 degrees.

    2. This is also listed in the design guide please refer table 1.

    3. These are listed as test results in the design guide.
