I am trying to replicate using a hardware trigger by following the instructions found in the link below. (see the last post by Josiah Smith)

I am using the mmWaveICboost a DCA1000evm and a IWR6843ISK-ODS chip. When I follow the instructions in the above link I am unable to run the mmwave_studio_cli.exe without getting the error

[ERROR] mmwave device NO RSP for CLI CMD
[ERROR] During Device Configuration [-1]

I checked to ensure that the SOP pins were in the correct spot and the power supply was functioning correctly. Right now I believe the error may be due to the fact that in the link above the SDK used is 3.5.0.4 which does not support the IWR6843ISK revA chips (forcing me to use SDK 3.3.03). If I try to flash the demo binary file for SDK 3.5.0.4 the process fails. This theory is also by the mmwavestudio_CLI release notes which supports mmWave SDK 3.5.0.1.


Are there any other actions I can take to get my setup working with the CLI or do I need a newer version of the IWR6843ISK chip?

I also wonder if i do the hardware reconfiguration (removing resistors) if I would be able to use the hardware trigger option in mmWaveStudio?

    First off, when you say "IWR6843ISK revA chip", are you saying the sensor IC itself is silicon revision ES1.0 or are you saying your ISK EVM says Rev. A? Second, If mmWaveStudio is not launching properly, then there are some steps that can be taken. If your EVM is declining CLI commands which is what the error seems to be saying, then it could be a different issue. For now, I would like you to go through this powerpoint linked below and make sure all required installations for launching mmWaveStudio are downloaded. Ensure your hardware switches are in the proper position as well. Lastly, I do not see you mention anything about an ICBOOST. If you are using IWR6843ISK-ODS Rev-A, then you must also use an ICBOOST in order to properly send over commands and then receive data via DCA1000.

  • Hi Pedrhom,

    1) The evaluation board I am using is RevA I am not sure if the means the silicon is ES1.0 or ES2.0 but based on the support listed for each version of the SDK I assumed it was ES1.0. I also based this on what versions of the SDK demo I was able to flash to my device without receiving an error.

    2) Thank you for the powerpoint but I have zero issues using mmWaveStudio and have been using it for 2 years now.

    3) Yes I am using a mmWaveICBoost along with the DCA1000 and the IWR6843ISK-ODS

    4) My main issue is running the CLI commands after flashing the SDK to the IWR6843

    Thank you for clarifying. So just to test the ability for your IWR6843ISK-ODS to receive CLI commands, I would like you to go through the first few steps of the Soft Reset Using CLI Fundamentals lab in order to use TeraTerm to actively send CLI commands and check if the sensor can start/receive data.

    Once you get TeraTerm configured properly for communication with the mmWave sensor, you should send a full cfg file worth of parameters from a configuration file related to the lab you are using. Since you talked about flashing the binary from the SDK, that binary is what we call the Out of Box Demo binary and you can use the commands in one of the cfgs located in the profiles folder: C:\ti\<mmwave_sdk_version>\packages\ti\demo\xwr68xx\mmw\profiles
