AWR6843AOP: XDS110 issue

Part Number: AWR6843AOP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642BOOST-ODS

Hi,

While testing for target configuration, i tested to check connection, which displayed as follows :

The value is '-260' (0xfffffefc).
The title is 'SC_ERR_XDS110_OPEN'.

The explanation is:
An attempt to connect to the XDS110 failed.
The cause may be one or more of: no XDS110 is connected, invalid
firmware update, invalid XDS110 serial number, or faulty USB
cable. The firmware and serial number may be updated using the
xdsdfu utility found in the .../ccs_base/common/uscif/xds110
directory of your installation. View the XDS110SupportReadMe.pdf
file there for instructions.

[End: Texas Instruments XDS110 USB Debug Probe_0]

I explicityly installed XDS110 as well but still then in device manager i dont see the COM port of XDS110 as shown below :

How do i get this XDS110 recognized for AWR6843AOP. Additinally how do i download mmwave demo built , using CCS 11.2?

Regards

Vinay

  • Hello.

Please refer to the Hardware Setup Guide to make sure your device is properly set up for debug mode(using the MMWAVE ICBoost board).  You can find a link to it here.  Also make sure the micro-usb cable is plugged into the XDS110 port of the MMWAVE ICBoost board rather than just the AOP itself.

    Sincerely,

    Santosh

  • Thanks Santosh. As per documentation of mmwave sdk user guide, to connect the AWR6843AOP we dont need mmwave IC boost .

The document mentions AWR6843AOP EVM has inbuilt XDS110 debug provision via CCS, which is what i am trying to set up.

Can you please tell me is this understanding correct or not ?

    Pasting document sections here :

How to connect mmWave EVM to CCS using JTAG
Debug/JTAG capability is available via the same XDS110 micro-USB port/cable on the EVM. TI Code composer studio would be required for
accessing the debug capability of the device. Refer to the release notes for TI code composer studio and emulation pack version that would be
    needed.

  • Hello Vinay.

This is not possible.  In order to use CCSDebug, the mmWave ICBoost board is required with the AOP and when the SDK mentions EVM in this section, it is referring to the combination of the ICBoost and radar EVM.  I have provided a link to the EVM set up with an ICBoost in the previous response and a link to the CCS Debug guide here.

    Hope this helps,

    Santosh

  • Oh Ok....This is not properly documented when we are buying the device, we tend to carry with word of EVM (evaluation module).

I would suggest to document this when developers are buying.

Now i am switching to another device : AWR1642BOOST-ODS (Luckily we had bought this too).

Hope this device brings debuggability and development friendly.

  • Hello Vinay.

This board does have debugging capabilities and you should be able to follow the guides I provided you to start debugging.

    Sincerely,

    Santosh
