Hi,
In my design I am using LDC1612QDNTTQ1 part, Can you please support on Rectangular coil design calculation ?
and also suggest which one, circular or rectangular coil shape is good ? for more range detection.
I am using 4 layer PCB board
Current board working image, please provide calculation(trace width, space, length, height) for more range detection.
Prabhu,
Rectangular, round spiral and racetrack coils are all fine choices for sensor design.
The max sensing range is approximately equal to 50% of the coil's outer width.
For a round spiral coil, this is equal to the coil's diameter.
For round racetrack and rectangular coils this is equal to the smallest outer width.
From section 2.4 of the app note Sensor Design for Inductive Sensing Applications Using LDC
...
Please read the app notes for additional details.
We don't have tools for designing rectangular coils, but we do have an excel-based tool for designing circular and racetrack coils available here.
Regards,
John
