AWR2944: srcScale and dstScale when configuring compression param-set on AWR2944

Hi Experts

Customer would like to know what’s the meaning of srcScale and dstScale when configuring compression param-set on AWR2944.

As shown in below codes. I did not find any description in HWA user guide compression addendum regarding to srcScale and dstScale.

Could you pls help elaborate what's the meaning of these params and if we need to modify it in customer's app?

Hi Ken,

The srcScale and the dstScale are input and output formatter configs in a given param set. It is used to scale your input or output by 8 shifts (useful as the HWA works on a 24bit word data and the level of the signal can be maintained). You can find the description for the same in the TRM as follows.

Thanks for clarifying.

Seems It should always be 8 for compression input (16+8=24) and 0 for compression out in AWR2944 context.

Hi Ken,

That is correct. Using 8 srcScale will make sure that the input does not get scaled when passed to the compression engine. Similarly, the dstScale 0 makes sure the output is not modified. (This is particular to 16-bit inputs & outputs)

while decompression is also 16-bit inputs & outputs, but it is using 0 srcScale and 0 destScale. it is really strange.

The doxygen document present in the mmwave SDK explains how the input and output formatter are to be configured when using HWA for compression/decompression. You can refer to that.
