TMAG6180-Q1: TMAG6181-Q1 . Can both be used in OFF-AXIS orientation ?

Part Number: TMAG6180-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMAG6181-Q1, TMAG5173-Q1, TMAG5273, TMAG5170-Q1

Hello,.

In looking at the product pages of both TMAG6180-Q1 & TMAG6181-Q1 there is a reference to the

TI Magnetic Sense Simulator (TIMSS) webench.ti.com/.../ and both are listed in "Supported products & hardware"

Supported products & hardware
TMAG6180-Q1 — Automotive high-precision analog AMR angle sensor with 360° angle range
TMAG6181-Q1 — Automotive high-precision analog AMR angle sensor with integrated turns counter

In fact, I can not find any of TMAG6180-Q1 & TMAG6181-Q1  listed in the design tool TIMSS.

Please advise if both sensor can be used in OFF-AXIS orientation to the ring magnetic ?

Thank you,

Best regards,

Ivan

  • Hi Ivan,

Thanks for posting to the Sensors forum.

We are in the process of adding devices from our magnetic sensing portfolio to the TIMSS tool. Many have been added, but the TMAG6180-Q1 and TMAG6181-Q1 have not been added yet. They will be listed soon.

TMAG6180-Q1 and TMAG6181-Q1 are intended to be used in an on-axis configuration. If your system requires off-axis configuration I recommend taking a look at
    TMAG5170(-Q1), TMAG5173-Q1, and TMAG5273.

    Best regards,

    Jesse

  • Thank you for the response. We checked your suggested replacement and unfortunately, hey do not fit our needs...

We need the following spec and this is why we selected both TMAG6180-Q1: TMAG6181-Q1 for evaluation....

    Vsupply=3V

    Isup<2mA

    B=300mT

    Linearity<2%

    Temp co of Vh<0.06%/deg

    Temp co of Rin<0.3%/deg

    Thank you,

  • Hey Ivan,

Thanks for sharing your spec requirements. I see how the TMAG5173-Q1 and TMAG5273 don't meet your requirements as they don't have a magnetic range option that goes up to 300 mT.

However, just for clarification, could the TMAG5170-Q1 meet your needs?

    • Supply voltage of 3V is ok
    • Average current consumption is < 2mA depending on operating mode
    • ±300 mT range available with A2 variant
    • Sensitivity linearity error of ±0.1% (X, Y axis) and ±0.05% (Z axis)
    • TMAG5170-Q1 offers different temperature compensation options depending on the type of magnet used to account for changes in the magnet's residual induction across temperature.

    Best regards,

    Jesse

  • Hi Ivan,

I just wanted to update you here that the TMAG6180-Q1 and TMAG6181-Q1 are now listed in the TIMSS tool.

    Best regards,

    Jesse
