IWR6843AOP: Issue in Flashing Firmware of Custom Board based on IWR6843AOP

Dear TI Team,

I am writing to seek assistance with a technical issue I have encountered while working with the IWR6843AOPEVM and a custom board I have designed.

Specifically, I have designed a custom board based on the IWR6843AOPEVM and attempted to flash the firmware onto the IWR6843AOP using connector P2. Unfortunately, during this process, I encountered an error message in Uniflash, which states, "unable to open COM Port."

To provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the situation, I have attached the schematic file for your reference. I kindly request that you review the schematic and advise whether it appears to be correct or if there are any potential issues that could be causing the COM Port communication problem.

Hi,

I would check if Flashing mode is enabled, especially check 3.3V present at S1.3 (SOP2) in your design.

Thanks Adam for your Quick Reply.

I confirm that S1.3 (SOP2) is at 3.3V.
Also AR_PMIC_CLKOUT_SOP2 is at 2.5V.

Hello,

This error usually indicates the device is not in "Flashing" mode. Can you confirm the switch settings are correct as per the guide located at https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/content/radar_toolbox_1_00_00_26/docs/hardware_guides/evm_setup_operational_modes.html#aop-evms?

The device should also be reset after changing the switch settings. Sometimes Uniflash needs to be restarted as well.

Meanwhile we are reviewing the schematic which may take up to a week. Please also check the below thread with the similar issue:

Hi Ankit,
Thanks for your response.

I confirm the IWR6843AOP is in flashing mode.

SOP [2] : SOP [1] : SOP [0]

1 0 1 = Flashing Mode
0 0 1 = Functional Mode

I can verify that when I turn S(1.3) ON i.e is Flashing mode

Following are the voltages at SOP switches.

AR_PMIC_CLKOUT_SOP2 = 2.5V
AR_SYNC_OUT_SOP1 = 0V (attached to GND)
AR_TDO_SOP0 = 3.3V

Hi Gagandip,

Thanks for confirming the SOP setting. Were you able to Flash the device with current SOP setting ?

We are also looking into the schematic you shared. The SOP setting seems to be accurate. Could you also confirm if the switch 1.2 is ON to set it to OUT_RS232.

Hi Ankit,

I am still unable to flash my device. I confirm that the AR_RS232TX and AR_RS232RX are routed to OUT_RS232TX and OUT_RS232RX respectively

Hi,

It would need some further debug. I could not identify any major drawbacks that could lead to this.

Could possibly send the oscilloscope captures of all the power lines and SOP signals at the time of NRESET release, similar sequence to what is given below. We need to ensure proper wake-up and correct SOP mode latching at reset release to boot up in correct mode.
