AWRL6432: The Signal to Noise ratio Difference of xWRx432 and xWRx843.

Hi,

We are now checking the received power of the our module using AWR6432 and AWR6843.
In the result, the S/N of AWR6843 module would be higher than AWR6432 module in the same enviroment, same modulation, same number of chirps, and they have same antenna design.
And then, the S/N ratio of AWR6432 module depends on the FW in SDK5.3.0.2.

Can you predict what causes this difference?

    Hi Tak,

    The mmWave demo is only BPM, but the Motion and Presence demo is can be BPM or TDM. Do you know how you are operating the Motion and Presence demo?

    Hi Clinton-san,

    We are using mmWave Demo FW and it would be BPM mode when evaluate the AWR6432 module.

    And the SDK3.6 FW is used when evaluate the AWR6843 module. It would be TDM mode.

    So then, we are thinking that the output power of AWR6432 module would be higher(doubles?3dB?) than AWR6843 module, but the result was the opposite and the 20dB difference is too big.

    Hi Tak,

    In general, we'd probably expect the SNR of 6843 to be higher because of higher number of channels and greater TX power.

    That being said, I would suggest looking at raw ADC data, antenna by antenna, on the boards to get a better idea of the differences. The plot you show I am assuming is from the range profile? The data format may differ between 6843 and 6432, and the way all the antenna data is combined together may differ as well. You are likely not comparing apples to apples here.

    Can you answer Clinton's question above? For Presence and Motion demo, are you using BPM or TDM?

    In summary, Raw ADC data comparisons will allow you to see true differences independent of post-processing.

    We are using "mmWave Demo" and "Motion and Presence Detection" of SDK5.3, and using BPM mode.

    I understood the difference coused by number of antenna.
    We will try to get and check the raw data.
