AWRL1432: How the maximum detection distance by AWRL 1432 which support on Entry-BSD application of own design antenna?

Part Number: AWRL1432
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642,

How the maximum detection distance by AWRL 1432 which support on Entry-BSD application of own design antenna?

1. We would like to study AWRL 1432 for entry BSD function, need to evaluate the maximum detection distance, how it is if we use our own design antenna from EVK 2 patch to 6 patch (~3dB improve)?

2. MCU is Cortex-M4F at 160MHz instead of Cortex-R4F at 200MHz if we compare with AWR1642, what limitation need to consider? e.g. The data output rate 40Hz to 20Hz (DSS handle object) ...etc?

3. AWRL1432 remove DSP but add HWA for FFT, CFAR..etc if we compare with AWR1642 with DSP, what limitation need to consider?

Many thanks on this evaluation.

  • Hello.

I'm looking into your request and will get back to you shortly.

    Thanks,

    E. Shared

  • Hello,

Can you explain what you mena by from EVK 2 patch to 6 patch?

  • Hello Shareef,

Please refer to the below pictures for AWRL1432 EVK with 2 patches and another AWR1642 EVK with 4 patches antenna as examples.

4 patches antenna will get better power gain but less VFOV.

    * Each TX or RX antenna with 2 patches.

    * Each TX or RX antenna with 4 patches.

    BR, Richard

  • Hello,

Yes, the 4 patch did improve the gain thereby decreasing the VFOV. The increase in gain is ~4dB.

  • Hello Shareef,

Thanks for it, and would you help on below questions.

    1. We would like to study AWRL 1432 for entry BSD function, need to evaluate the maximum detection distance. How's maximum detection distance for passenger car of AWRL 1432 EVK?

    2. MCU is Cortex-M4F at 160MHz instead of Cortex-R4F at 200MHz if we compare with AWR1642, what limitation need to consider? e.g. The data output rate 40Hz to 20Hz (DSS handle object) ...etc? And how's output rate of AWRL 1432 EVK for entry-BSD?

    3. AWRL1432 remove DSP but add HWA for FFT, CFAR..etc if we compare with AWR1642 with DSP, what limitation need to consider?

    4. How's maximum relative speed can be supported by AWRL 1432 ?

    Many thanks.

  • Hi,

We are working to release an AWRL1432 BSD demo and EVM soon. The range performance is about 110-120m for tracked car.

The BSD EVM should be available by early next month and the demo binary will be available next week in the Radar Toolbox

    thank you

    Cesar

  • Hi Cesar,

It is good for such EVK to reach 110~120m, we will wait and purchase it.

This solve my question 1, could you help for the other questions as well?

    <RE> It can be 110m~120m。

The performance we were able to achieve is as follows:

    • 20Hz, 100 detected points max, 16 tracked objects
    • 16.66 Hz, 100 detected points max, 32 tracked objects
    • 256 chirps, 128 adc samples per chirp with compression
    • tracking 16/32 objects
    • 3xVmax extension

You are correct. AWRL1432 has a HWA 1.2. Please see performance achieved above

How's maximum relative speed can be supported by AWRL 1432 ?

We achieved max speed 40 m/s

    Thank you
