AWR2944EVM: The angle resolution in the horizontal and vertical directions

Hi，

According to the angle resolution formula,

when θ=0,in the horizontal direction, the azimuth resolution is 9.549 degrees ,in the vertical direction,the elcvation resolution is 17.9049 degrees.From the above, we can see that the resolutions are low int the both directions. Now we encounter a problem:

In the following scene,

by experiment, the radar can not distinguish the sign and guard bar. Is it because the poor angle resolution in the horizontal and vertical directions? Is there any method to improve the angle resolution?

Hi Rata,

Is it possible to share the range-angle heat map of such a scene? Need to make that the respective signals are intact before looking at any discrepancy in the detection algorithm.

Sorry, we do not acquire data about the range-angle heat map of such a scene.We consider the angle resolution problem.We don't know what we think is right or not.

Hi Rata,

I found this thread (+) AWR1443: FMCW radar angle estimation - Sensors forum - Sensors - TI E2E support forums. I think that this is helpful in understanding about resolving multiple objects. The radar needs to resolve the objects in only one of the 3 dimensions (range, velocity and angle).

Thanks for your reply. I got it.But in our scene, there must be a section of suard bar that has the same range and velocity(they are both static objects) with the sign. So it is coincidentally the condition that need to resolve the two objects by azimuth angle. In this situation, if the azimuth resolution is poor, radar can not resolve them, is that right?

I don't think that range is equal at all the points. It will be helpful if you can share range-angle heatmap.

Two stationary objects equidistant from the radar => their signals fall in the same range-Doppler bin => need good angle resolution to resolve them.
