IWR6843: resolution improvement in MMWCAS-RF-EVM

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDEP-01012, , IWR6843, AWR2243

Dear all,

Could you guide me on the feasibility of improving the resolution, and possibly how, particularly regarding RX beamforming using the cascaded board MMWCAS-RF-EVM?  In the Design Guide (TIDEP-01012 PDF), it is mentioned that the receiver angle resolution in these two operation modes (MIMO and bearmforming) are equivalent since the effective aperture size is the same. Further, the signal SNR in the beamforming is much higher due to the coherent gain in TX beamforming mode.

Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Amir,

Passing this to the relevant team now. Thank you for your patience.

    Best,

    Nate

  • HI,

If you are trying to improve the resolution with IWR6843 platform similar to MMWCAS-RF-EVM, this will not be possible.

The MMWCAS-RF-EVM was designed to cascade four AWR2243 sensors to result in 16Rx antennae.

    thank you

    Cesar

  • Hi Cesar, thanks for your reply. No, no, I am using MMWCAS-RF-EVM.

(I just used the "ask a related question" button, that's why my question is mistakenly tagged as IWR6843).

I record the data of all four radars, and I want to improve the resolution in the post-processing step, particularly as RX beamforming. The x-y plot (meter, meter) is of my interest, and the resolution in the y-axis, which corresponds to elevation, is not enough.

I want to know if any code exists for doing this or any other approach.

    Thanks,

    Amir

  • Thank you for the additional information.

The only code available from TI is the Matlab code available in

    C:\ti\mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14\mmWaveStudio\MatlabExamples\4chip_cascade_MIMO_example

    C:\ti\mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14\mmWaveStudio\MatlabExamples\4chip_cascade_TxBF_example

Unfortunately the team that developed these examples is no longer available for support. So, the matlab source code is our only reference.

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Thank you Cesar, I will give these two codes another look to see if they solve the problem

  • Thank you

    I will close the thread.
