AWR1843AOPEVM: AWR1843AOP flashing with UART

Part Number: AWR1843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, , AWR1843

Tool/software:

Hi ,

I have awr1843aopevm development kit , I want to flash the radar sensor on using the UART which is been connected to CP usb to TTL but I would like to probe this UART named as Ar_rs232 in kit schematic and connect it to external ftdi and then flash it with uniflash .

Is it possible and how can I do it .

Any help will be benefitial I am doing this for a new design and using 1843aop in it but I am not sure can I flash it by probing the UART and not using the CP ic as in reference schematic.

Thanks

  • Hello Ravi,

You should be able to set the UART MUX on the board and use TP18 and TP19 test points to flash over UART. Your title also mentions JTAG, you could check the following JTAG Flasher User Guide

  • Hi Aydin kiasat,

    Thanks for reply

Actually, I am connecting UART  directly from u18 ic pin 10 AR_RS232_RX and pin 6 AR_RS232_RX  to an ftdi as in my original design i will not be using any mux .

can you please suggest without  controlling any mux how can i do it .

  • I even tried with break uart on TP18 and 19 and setting s1.1 on , by connecting these tp rx and tx to ftdi tx rx but still not able to flash it with FTDI with uniflash.

  • Hi Ravi,

Which SOP mode are you using, could you double check if it's Flashing mode?

Just to check, have you swapped the flash with a different flash? If so, it is possible the flash variant is not supported. Additionally, could you probe at the QSPI lines and verify any communication is happening?

    Regards,

    Aydin

  • Hi Aydin,

My SOP mode is in flashing mode ,switches are at correct position and I am using awr1843aopevm development kit and using its default flash memory.

Also I am able to flash through the inbuilt usb connector in the kit with uniflash.

But if I probe the UART mentioned earlier I am not able to flash , UNIFLASH shows error can't open com port check port or permission.

  • Hi Ravi,

When you're probing at the test points, could you also check if U15, IN1/IN2 is gnd. There is S1 switch on the board which the second position (UART_MUX_CTRL2) should ground the pin. Also, you have the TX of the cable connected to the RX of the device and vice versa, correct? and to understand your set up better, you are using an external USB to UART, with an FTDI on it, please correct me if not.

  • Hi Aydin,

U are right I am using an external ftdi my s3 position is for flashing is right and connecting rx to tx and tx to rx of ftdi to AR UART .

I tried with break UART by controlling mux but still didn't get it .

Then I directly connected ar_rs232 UART which is on schematic to my ftdi but was not able to flash.

  • Hi Aydin ,

I also did U15, IN1/IN2 gnd and now my switch positions are as follow s1.1-on ,s1.2-on s1.3 -off , s1.4-off  and s2 switch all off

is there any chance that is supports only cp21x usb to ttl ?

    regards

  • Hi Ravi,

    what's your logic level.

Please refer to the following thread: AWR1843BOOST: Flashing through UART without the XDS110 Interface - Sensors forum - Sensors - TI E2E support forums

  • Hi Aydin ,

My issue is resolved actually AWR did not supported ftdi rl232 but it supported cp210x usb to ttl is used cp210x and was able to flash the awr1843 through direct uart and with breakway uart also.

    Thanks for help.

  • Hi Ravi,

We've tried with FTDI232RL and worked fine, no issues. Not sure if this is the same or yours is a different variant. However, thanks for the update and glad you were able to flash.
