AWRL6432BOOST: Antenna coupling removal issue

Part Number: AWRL6432BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWRL6432

Tool/software:

Hello TI experts,

I imported and enabled DC range signature compensation for removing high power from near range bin caused from antenna coupling.

After that, the power level in the near-field bins drops.

But it increases for some frames.

It means that the power is increasing because the average value that is subtracted is constant.

* Initial frame

* Some frames later

Why does this symptom occur?

I found this question it's similar with my question. but it was not clear.

  • Hello,

Thank you for posting your question on antenna coupling. One of our engineers will get back to you with more details on this behavior within the next day or two.

    Thank you for your patience,

    Kristien

  • Hello Jungbum,

I have a few questions to help me understand your testing environment.

    1. Are there objects close to your radar device? Even if there are objects around your radar device, there could be some reflections that are picked up as close to your radar.
    2. Is the increase in power constant or sporadic? Do you ever see it decrease?

    Best,

    Vignesh K.

  • Hello, Vignesh

    1. There is no objects close to the sensor.(AWRL6432boost EVM)

    2. The power increases gradually. I haven't seen it decrease, The power goes up to a certain point and then stops going up.

Below is a test performed looking at the ceiling.

    Thank you.

    Best Regards,

    JB

  • Hi JB,

This could also be caused by some chirp accumulation. If you are not using the radar for a near field application then it may be simpler to remove/ignore the 0th doppler bin here.

    What demo are you running?

    Best,

    Vignesh K.

  • Hi, Vignesh

    This is MMW_demo example of AWRL6432.(SDK: MMWAVE_L_SDK_05_05_02_00)

I entered 0 for the frameCfg parameter numofChirpsAccum. (lowPowerCfg 0)

Please let me know if you need more information.

    Thank you.

    Best Regards,

    JB

  • Hi Jungbum,

Firstly, I recommend you follow the steps in the SDK to calibrate your device. Please find the Measurement Procedure Implementation. Calibrating your device may help here.

Secondly, is the power in the 0th doppler bin that you are seeing corresponding to a detected point? If it is not then it may not be a concern and if it is then you can still tune your CFAR implementation to ensure that it is not being detected as a point.

    Best,

    Vignesh K.
