IWR6843ISK-ODS: rangeAzimuthHeatMap generated by the MMWare demo visualizer

Part Number: IWR6843ISK-ODS

Tool/software:

Hello everyone,

I recorded a data file from IWR6843ISK-ODS containing both rangeAzimuthHeatMap by using the MMWare demo visualizer, and there is only one target(person) moving in the scene. which makes me wonder why there are multiple bright spots(actually there is only one target moving in the scene) moving in the rangeAzimuthHeatMap, and these bright spots are located at different positions on the same arc.  Do the positions of these bright spots represent the targets detected by the radar? Please can you clarify this aspect?

Sincerely,

Liu Yang

  • Hi,

This interpretation is correct. Are you using a configuration file meant for the ODS device? If you use a configuration designed for the ISK or AOP, it may run on the ODS but give the wrong AOA. Please post your config here.

    Best,

    Nate

  • Hi, I attach the config here, can you help me check if there are any issues?

    xwr68xx_AOP_profile_2025_04_23T09_52_51_514.cfg

  • hi, more information:

we use the bin from the following link: C:\ti\mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_12_1\labs\Out_Of_Box_Demo\prebuilt_binaries\out_of_box_6843_ods.bin

and hardware board is 6843ISK-ODS. but if i choose platform xWR68xx, it will report that the target platform is 6843_AOP. so i only choose the 6843_AOP platform, and get results as liuyang shows.

i change to use the another bin: out_of_box_6843_isk.bin , it seems not work well.

pls help check liuyang‘s configuration file and the experiments i have tried.

  • Hi,

Your profile is built for the AOP. Please see this thread.

    https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/1086867/iwr6843isk-ods-incorrect-config-reported-by-target-hint-change-configuration-and-try-again

Try replicating what they have done:

i have loaded the binary file that you have suggested: "D:\ti\mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_10_1\labs\Out_Of_Box_Demo\prebuilt_binaries\xwr6843ODS_mmw_demo.bin"

The demo visualizer settings that i am using are: "Platform: xWR68xx_AOP, SDK version: 3.5, Antenna Config: 4RX, 3TX (30 Azim 30 Elev)"
I have also tried the xWR68xx platform but it doesn't work.

    Best,

    Nate

  • thanks, Nath.

we use the configure file which from the forum post you provide as attached.profile_3d_ODS_RAheatmap.cfg

the test environment is one person move far and close  in front the Radar as picture  shows.

we load the config file via "load config from PC and send" in the web visualizer, and get heatmap as the video.

on the heatmap, we still get much more bright spots, could you help check whether it is reasonable?

  • Can you test outdoors or in a more open environment? It looks like you may get multi-path from the walls in the narrow room.

    Best,

    Nate

  • hi, Nath

i move Radar outdoor, and also one person in front of Radar, i get result as video.

could you help check whether the step is right as last comment?

any config parameters should be optimized?

  • Hi,

What does the point cloud output look like. We expect to see some spreading in the angle domain in the heatmap, but this should be cleaned up by the point cloud. Consider using the applications visualizer found in the radar toolbox.

    Best,

    Nate
