MMWAVE-STUDIO: not detect AWR1243BOOST

Dear TI Customer Supports,

I am using AWR1243BOOST connected with DCA1000EVM. As shown in Connection Tab in mmWave Studio (image below), the No. of Devices Detected is 0, and FPGA version detected is 0.0.0.0. In fact, the radar was successfully detected before, but after a month being unused, it now could not be detected anymore.

So far, I did these things:

- ensure the jack, usb connector are tight, also change jack and usb cable

- switch S2 on AWR1243BOOST set to SPI
- mount jumpers on SOP0 & SOP1, then power on

- power up with SOP0 jumper only, then place jumper on SOP1

- switch SW2.3 on DCA1000EVM set to 1243 mode

- test with all mmWave Studio versions (from 1.0.0.0 to 2.1.1.0)

- download the latest firmware versions of AWR1243BOOST and DCA1000EVM on website (I tried to use UniFlash to flash firmware but it could not detect AWR1243BOOST also)

Despite that trying, the problem still occurs. I uploaded images of mmWave Studio UI, port discription on Device Manager and the output log of mmWave Studio.

Please, I need a solution. These boards are not cheap...

Hi E. Shareef,

I've just taken and attached the image of my current connections. I'm using a 5V, 4A power adapter for the AWR board, and none for DCA board, as I did before. I also did power on the DCA separately using another adapter, but the issue still there.

Hello,

Just to make sure the DCA is functional, can you switch pin 7 on the DCA1000. Also use an external 5V supply on the DCA1000.

I switch pin 7 as marked in figure and use an adapter to power on the DCA1000, but mmWave Studio still not detect this device.

Is Ethernet connected to the DCA?

Please confirm if you have set the IP adress for the DCA via the "Network and Internet Settings"

In the figure above, the ethernet cable is connected to the DCA. And I can confirm that the IP adress is set correctly before and after when the problem appeared.

I'm a bit confused about checking if the board is functional. Can you clarify it for me please.

Yes, there is another AWR1243BOOST. I connected it to the DCA, but the problem still occured.

PS: my university is having day-offs until this weekend, and unfortunately I couldn't borrow the boards. Because of that, I will test any of your advice as soon as the lab reopens.

There should be debug actions here based on your observations.

Hello,

Sorry for this late reply. I have read the debugging book and find out some of the most related problem to mine, but none of them solves the issue.

This one says the firmware version is not compatible, but the whole system did run successfully so I don't think this works.

These are about COM port connection error, which is closest to my problem, but they doesn't help either.

I also tried some other solutions in configuration issue topic, none of them worked.

If there is any other advice, I will follow it. Thanks for your help until now.

PS: I'm thinking that there may be dust that prevent the switches to connect properly, so I will sweep the boards tomorrow.

Hello,

Please follow exact steps in below video and share your log. This will help us understand exactly what is going on.

From what you have shared it looks like DCA may have some issue. You can also try reprogramming the FPGA following the steps on page 22 of the user guide.

The FPGA binary is located in the below directory.

C:\ti\mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14\mmWaveStudio\PlatformBinaries\DCA1000FPGA

If these do not work we may need to provide you a replacement.

Thanks for giving me these advice, I follow exact steps in the training video, and also try reprogramming the DCA.

However, the issue still occurs. I start to think of replacement. By the way, please tell me if there any advice.
