HDC3022: HDC3022DEJR, maximum pressure without mechanical failure

Part Number: HDC3022
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HDC3020

Tool/software:

Hello,

I know from another thread that this sensor has not been pressure-tested, but since this information is not available in the datasheet, what is the maximum pressure the sensor can withstand without mechanical failure?

Thanks,

Marco

  • Marco,

What kind of pressure were you thinking of applying to the HDC3022? Are you talking about higher air/water pressure, or pressure applied with an object? If you are considering applying pressure to the HDC3022 with an object, do not do so. Applying pressure to the sensing cavity may damage it and hence damage the part's ability to sense RH.

We have not performed pressure testing for package/mechanical failure either, so I cannot say what the limit is.

  • Hi Alex, and thank you for your reply. Actually, I was referring to air pressure higher than ambient pressure, around 1.3 to 1.4 bar. I understand that you haven’t conducted specific under pressure tests, but do we at least know if the sensor can mechanically withstand that level of pressure?

    Best regards

    Marco

  • Marco,

Thank you for the clarification. I was able to subject the HDC3020 that was soldered on a PCB to 2 bar for 5 minutes, and did not observe any mechanical damage. I tested the part before and after the pressure test and did not see any performance change. So for your air pressure levels, the HDC3x should be good to use. I do not expect there to by any difference between the HDC3020 and the HDC3022 at those pressure levels.

    Thanks
