IWR6843ISK: Issue in flashing binary file in IWR6843IS using MMWAVEICBOOST board

Hi,

I am using IWR6843ISK radar module and MMWAVEICBOOST board. I have mounted IWR6843ISK on MMWAVEICBOOST board. Connected micro usb to XDS110USB port. Powered ON MMWAVEICBOOST with 5V 3A adaptor. Followed steps as per the video https://www.ti.com/video/6205896562001.

I am not able to flash the binary file in IWR6843ISK. It gives me an error message ""Image loading fail: Not able to connect to serial port. Recheck COM port and/or permission" even though COM is detected and has permission too.

What can be the issue?

Hello Manoj,

Ensure that the MMWAVEICBOOST and 6843ISK device switches are set properly for flashing mode, as well as no other program is connected to the COM ports, potentially preventing any other connection. If you continue to struggle, temporarily try to flash the 6843ISK independently and disconnected.

Hi Pedrhom,

All switches are set properly. I have referred the EVM Operation Modes User Guide. Connection wise everything is correct.

I am able to flash IWR6843ISK independently. But I want it to program using carrier board. I have IWR6843ISK REV D board.

I have referred below thread regarding this issue but didn't work,

It may have to do with the black 2 pin jumper connector not making proper contact preventing the MMWAVEICBOOST from going into flashing mode. Maybe try flipping the jumper connector or use a different one.

There are many 2 pin jumper connectors. Which one to be flipped exactly, could you please let me know the jumper connector number.

Flashing mode

Functional mode

If SOP2 does not get proper contact via jumper, it can prevent the ICBOOST from properly being set to flashing mode.

Hi Pedrhom,

SOP2 is having proper contact via jumper. I have checked it with multimeter also. But still, it is not working.

Anything else that I can look into please suggest.

Hello Manoj,

If you can assure that every switch is set to the right position based on my previous image, and every jumper that needs one has a jumper similar to my previous image, something may be wrong. If it is not too much issue, you only have to flash the 6843ISK separately once with the ccsdebug image found in the SDK. Afterwards with it in functional mode, .out files can be sent to the device via CCS -> XDS repeatedly.

Hi Pedrhom,

Since flashing a binary is not working with MMWAVEICBOOST carrier board, will debugging work?

Hello Manoj,

There is no resulting difference between flashing a binary to the ISK via standalone method or ICBOOST method. As long as the ccsdebug image is what is flashed, you will be able to debug in CCS if MMWAVEICBOOST functional mode is working properly.

Hi Pedrhom,

I flashed "xwr68xx_ccsdebug.bin" file successfully in ISK via standalone method using uniflash. Then I made setting as shown in this link for debugging "Using CCS Debug". After that clicked on start debug then CCS studio was looking like this. Please find the screenshot below,

Could you please tell me is this correct? I guess it is still not in a debug mode. I am trying to debug ISK using MMWAVEICBOOST board using micro usb cable.

Hello Manoj,

Here is a sample target configuration .ccxml I use all the time for 6843. There should be no issues with it. What happens when you launch it then attempt to connect to the Cortex R4?

I am not sure at this point. Can you lastly confirm that the switches in the center of the MMWAVEICBOOST match what we have in the diagram below? Taken from the EVM Setup Operational Modes User Guide

If you can confirm this as well and it is still not working, then I will deem the MMWAVEICBOOST as defective. You can then reach out to a TI Representative or TI Customer Service in order to get a replacement. You should also refer them to this thread as verification of it being faulty. I will confirm it too if customer service reaches out to me. I apologize for the inconveniences here.
