IWRL6844EVM: Strange data measurement and mmWave studio problem

I've been using the IWRL6844EVM with the DCA1000 for about 1–2 months now, primarily for measuring water surface velocity.

Initially, I extracted the data from the .bin files (post-processed via mmWave Studio), and it worked quite well. However, 1–2 weeks ago, I ran into errors when launching the software due to a conflict between PC security settings and mmWave Studio. I had to reinstall both the software and the MATLAB runtime.

Since then, I’ve tried taking measurements again, but the point clouds extracted from the data no longer have the usual shape. Instead of forming straight lines, they appear as clusters of points.

Could the software reinstallation have caused this issue? Would remake the installion proprelly and maybe reflashing the board with the original pre-installed firmware help? If so, do you know where I can find the firmware file and how to perform the flash?

    I have been trying to resolve an issue on my side. I reinstalled the MMWAVE_L_SDK_06_01_00_05, deleted the RSTD folder, and reflashed the board using the Visualizer with the following image:

    C:\ti\MMWAVE_L_SDK_06_01_00_05\mmwave_l_sdk_06_01_00_05\examples\mmw_demo\mmwave_demo\prebuilt_binaries\xwrL684x-evm\mmwave_demo.release.appimage

    Previously, I was using the factory software provided with the board.

    After these steps, the signal quality improved in terms of shape and stability, but the resulting point cloud still does not match the one I obtained before the reinstallation.

    In mmWavestudio, all operations complete without errors. The Lua configuration files and the post-processing of the .bin files are identical to the previous setup. The software versions also appear to be the same, and I think this is the factory firmware image for the board.

    Despite this, I cannot recover the original signal behavior and point cloud results. From my perspective, everything seems consistent with the previous setup, so I am unsure what could be causing this difference.

    Could you please advise on any additional steps or checks required to restore the original signal behavior?

    Could you share your chirp design information to start off? Information like ADC samples, frame periodicity, etc. Then if you have data as you expect it, as well as this incorrectly behaving data, it would be useful for me to see it.

    I tried setting up the data acquisition on another computer and found that the issue seems to be related to my current installation on my laptop. It is likely caused by files being blocked by Windows security, even after re-installation.

    I would like to completely refresh the software and its associated files. Do you know if there are any specific folders, such as the RSTD folder, that should be deleted before reinstalling?

  • Just the RSTD folder in AppData and the mmWaveStudio folder within your TI folder
