TDC1000 concentration measurement .

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000, TDC7200

Hi,

I am working on TDC1000-TDC7200EVM.

In That trying to measure the liquid concentration, for that i setup the one cylindrical

tube for passing the liquid and placing ultrasonic Tx and RX transducer opposite to

each other face to face.

Then by using this TDC1000 measure the time and temperature.

For this which type of sensor this tdc1000 supports for this kind of application.

Liquid May be Soft Water, Hard Water, Milk, Oil, alcohol...

What are the types of liquid can measure by this.

  • SRM,

Any liquid's speed of sound can be measured using this setup. The thing to understand is:

    1. The speed of sound of that substance may change with temperature.

    2. Other substances "may" have similar speeds of sound.

So this technique works best in situations where a known liquid is measured and you need to determine if that liquid has been changed. Keep in mind concentration is defined as a mixing of two different substances. Each of those substances will have their own speed of sound. So the combination of the two will give a different speed of sound depending on the ratios of the two substances.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Matthew,

My aim is to measure the milk properties using this device.

In some of the existing products used ultrasonic for analyzing the milk properties.

    http://www.milkotester.com/
    www.milkotronicsindia.com/milk-analyzer.html

Some of the existing product having this ultrasonic technique for milk quality measurement.

40kHz individual tx and Rx transducer are used in that, Pass the milk inside the inlet and rise the temperature to about 30-45 deg,

Then pass the ultrasound then measure time and attenuation.

What are the TDC1000-TDC7200 EVM board GUI Setting for the below test setup.

    Test Conditions:

    1. Sensor Frequency 40Khz.

    2. Distance b/w the TX and RX sensor is 50mm.

    3. Milk Temperature 30 deg.

Does it is possible to get the result from this device.

I can share you the schematic of the existing design.

    Regards,

    SRM
  • Hi Matthew,

My Application is to measure the Quality of milk using ultrasonic technique,
Please see some of these existing product which are already in use by this technique.
    www.milkotronicsindia.com/milk-analyzer.html
    http://www.lactoscan.com/

This is the existing method of testing the milk.
For This what are the setting in TDC1000 Register in GUI for the below test condition.(TDC1000 TDC7200 EVM)
    1. 5mm dia cylindrical tube with RX TX sensors are mounted opposite to each other.
    2. Distance is 50mm b/w the sensor.
    3. Milk temperature is 35 deg.
    4. Transducer Frequency 40KHz.

Any biasing voltage required for the ultrasonic speaker for the TDC1000.

    Regards,
    SRM.
  • SRM,
That EVM isn't targeted at 40Khz operation. You have 2 issues to deal with for 40kHz operation.
    1. Excitation frequency. Depending on your transducer's bandwidth you may not be about to use the CPU generated clock. You'll need to supply a clock frequency that as a minimum is 80kHz. I'd suggest 1.28MHz as that will give you ~1us timing resolution with blanking.

    2. As you want to work with 40kHz transducers the bandpass filter for that EVM is targeted at 1Mhz. Check out this E2E thread on component changes:

  • Hi Mattew,

I want to work on the EMV board first before going in to 40Khz please help me to get the result.

Now Trying to connect the EVM board with sensor for measuring water level,
But not getting the expected result.

Referred below E2E thread for setting up for tank.

    Getting Continuesly 36500ns Avg TOF.
What could be the reasons for this.

  • SRM,
Read my appnote to get a better understanding of transducers and ultrasound www.ti.com/.../snaa266
Read my appnote to get a better understanding of how configure the TDC1000 for a level application www.ti.com/.../snaa270

Reply with oscilloscope picture showing Start, Stop and Compin and a screenshot of your register settings.

    -Regards,
  • Hi Matthew,

I studied all your app and datasheet, but not getting the expected result.

when i probe the signals not even single pulse appear on the scope.
even start pulse also not coming.(observed start and stop pulse 1-2 times but no compin signal).

I did the same config(sna270 app note),no waveform in oscilloscope.

Please help me to go further.

Can you please send me the config setting files also for the TDC7200 settings.

What should be the transducer polarity ?

  • Hi matt,
    sorry for the trouble you,

Please share the config files which you are used in this video.

    2. TDC1000_7200_concentration_cells_saleskits_2_2015.txt

By next week will share you the scope waveform ,

    regards,
  • These two files can be downloaded from the following link

    www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware

Then click on the "Start Design" button under Ultrasonic EVM / Transducer Selector. This page has the TDC1000 Register File download option that corresponds to the file you are looking for.

FYI, Matt is out on vacation until New Year.

    Thanks,
