IWR1443: Water level measurement and resolution

Hi everybody,

I'm planning to use this sensor to realize a level measurement system for industrial application such as tank, vessels and open channels. In order to replace ultrasonic transducers, that usually have a 1mm resolution in a 15m range, I would like to know if it's possible to get the same performance. We strictly must implement a 2-wire loop powered instrument, so probably we will reduce the ON-time of this device in order to reduce the power consumption, and also the microcontroller will "live"in LPM for a consistent part of the measuring cycle.

I'm worried about the performances shown in that whitepaper: As far as I know, the maximum resolution in full range application is around 4cm that is not acceptable il level measurement, but probably it's possible to increase this resolution by splitting the measurement phases: one full range measurement just to detect where is the target, then further mesurement in a short range around the target to determine exactly the distance (level) with 1mm resolution by using high sample rate FFT. Am I wrong? Are there some examples of that application.
