The application we intend to use this device is a bit different than TOF. Basically we need the time between Start and Stop signal. I have 2 questions for you

Will there be a problem if the frequency of the start is 50KHz. (for our application we need 50 KHz)

I see 100ms sampling and that would not work with our 50KHz START frequency

If this is the limitation of the TI launchPAD, can we do anything to overcome this by just using OTS boards.

Is there any limitation differences between mode 1 and mode 2? Will the resolution stay the same (55ps)?

Hello,

As mentioned in the post that you have linked, all of the calibration measurements and data reads take about 5us to complete if the input clock is 8Mhz and the SPI is done at 20Mhz.

The period of a 50khz signal is 20us, so as long as the time you are measuring is less than about 15us, then you can perform measurements at 50khz.

The resolution is the same in both mode 1 and mode 2.

Hi Scott,
I am using the evaluation board and also MSP430 LaunchPad.

From the first page of TI GUI software , I see a 100ms trigger update. My question is if the combination of these two board + the TDC7201EVM software gui will give me the 50KHz that I am looking for?

No. The maximum measurement update frequency using the GUI is once every 100ms.
