TDC1000: How to mount the ultrasonic transducer on a pipe without any reflector.

Hi Sir/Mam,

I am working on water flow meter using TDC1000 and TDC7200 for a NON-INTRUSIVE type and using an ultrasonic transducer from Audio -well i.e US0004 (part number: 137130100017).

1) For non-intrusive type mounting, do we require reflectors? If required, we don't want that to be placed inside the pipe.

if any suggestions on this, it would be very helpful for us to continue further. I have enclosed the datasheet of a transducer for reference.

Hello Vidya,

For the non-intrusive type mounting you wont require any reflectors. Refer Fig below for an example on how to mount the transducer:

However in the 2nd file that you have attached I find there is an internal reflector, please clarify if you consider that as Non- Intrusive.

You should be able to use any type of pipe for non-intrusive. CPVC should be good.

Hi Bharat,

The transducer I mentioned earlier requires a reflector, but we don't want any reflectors inside the pipe (NON-INTRUSIVE). The transducer (US0004-000) we used was mentioned by TI only.

So can you suggest the transducer which won't require reflector?

Vidya,

As suggested above if you have an reflector and transducer within the pipe it is called an intrusive type.

We can setup the transducers as shown in the figure before it is know as non-intrusive type.

All the recommended transducers are in the TDC1000 app notes.
