RTOS/AWR1642BOOST: Complex Sample Rate

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

Even though the maximum IF bandwidth for the receiver is 5MHz would it break Nyquist convention to sample anything above 3.125MHz in the complex case since the maximum sample rate of the ADC for a complex signal is 6.25MHz? If so, would the purpose of designing a receiver with 5MHz IF bandwidth be for sampling only the real component of a signal?

  • Hi Samuel,

Nyquist sampling rate, Fs/2, is determined entirely by the ADC sampling rate. On the AWR1642, in Complex mode the max sampling rate is 6.25 Msps putting Nyquist rate at 3.125 Mhz.

AWR1642 5MHz IF bandwidth limitation is effectively a system level limitation, not a receive chain or ADC limitation, mostly related to L2 RAM availability. And yes, there is some overlap into the region beyond max Fs/2 which is effectively not supported on the AWR1642 in Complex mode due to this IF processing limitation.

Please let me know if that answers your question on this topic.

    Thanks,
    Randy
