HDC2080: Some questions

Part Number: HDC2080

Hi Sirs,

Sorry to bother you

We do have some concerns and questions about the sensor.

According to ‘SNAA297A Optimizing Placement and Routing for Humidity Sensors’, it has to be an opening for sensing, it will get water condensed and dust into the cave for a period stored in the fridge

 1.    There is no filter on the top of HDC2080 sensor, it means that our mechanical has to add a mesh for IP (IP65 required on our sensor product), and the add-on mesh will cause low response time and the precisions on the relative humidity and temperature values, I assumed,  how could we overcome it from the PCB and ME design perspectives?

-       The response time

-       The accuracy

 2.    How to make the response time of the Humidity and the temperature as quick as possible if we have only small opening, or how big window of opening on the sensor you suggest?

No any recommendation on the SNAA297A guide line doc, only for the PCB design and the thermal mass concerns.

 3.    Since we’re using one-time battery, 90mA of heater is quite large and impact the battery life,  how could we use the heater of the sensor to get more precise RH also to have maximum battery life?

For instance, turn the heater on for 1sec after converting and reading the values, then go to sleep?

 4.    Another to the heater, how could we manage the temperature between the heater ON and the ambient?  Regarding the EVM, I turn heater on for about 10-sec, and the curves shown that the sensor needs at least 400-sec (7-min) to get the ambient temperature in steady.

Interval: 5000mS

-       Heater on @2331

-       To 60’C @2332

-       To 100’C @2333

-       Heater off @2345

-       The real ambient @2430

 5.     If we don’t use heater (to save the battery power) and put the sensor in the fridge (-30’C)  for a year, and keep in a limited distortion, for instance, RH in 10% and temp in 1’C,  what’s the suggestion from your side?

6.    Has any component on the EVM could be used to get the current on the sensor?  We may measure the current of HDC2080 on different conditions.

  • Hi Shu-Cheng,

The heater is not needed to make measurements. It is recommended that you leave the heater off. The heater can be used temporarily to recover from condensation.

We don't have information or advice on meeting IP65 rating with a humidity sensor. It may not be possible to meet this requirement while still measuring humidity.

    Thanks,
    Ren
