"RESP TIMEOUT" in mmWave Studio with AWR1243BOOST

Part Number: AWR1243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM, , IWR1443BOOST, IWR1443, UNIFLASH, AWR1243

 Dear experts,

I'm using mmWave Studio, DCA1000EVM and AWR1243BOOST (ES2.0).

At the Connection tab in mmWave Studio, " SPI Connect (5) " is failed with message "RESP TIMEOUT".

The error occurs only when I first connect after turning the power of AWR1243BOOST off and on again,

but it always happens after power cycle.

After the error has occurred,  if I press Reset and reconnect again, SPI Connect  will succeed.

In other words, I have to do the connection procedure twice when making a connection.

I have AWR1243BOOST and IWR1443BOOST, and in the case of IWR1443, the error doesn't occur in same setting.

I tried to do format by UniFlash but the result didn't change.

Can I avoid the error with AWR1243BOOST?

I attach log and image,

Thanks,

Masa

  • Hi Masa,

What is the state of the LEDs on the top side of the AWR1243 BOOST each time?

Does the issue go away if you press the NRST button on the AWR1243 BOOST?

    Best Regards,
    Anand
  • Hi Anand,
    Thanks for reply.

LEDs of NRST, NERR_OUT, 5V are turning ON when powering the AWR1243 BOOST.

When pressing Set(1) of Reset Control of mmWave Studio, NRST and NERR_OUT turn OFF once, and both turn ON again soon.
LEDs remain during pressing the buttons of Connect(2)- Load(3)- Load(4)- SPI Connect(5), and the error occurs (RESP TIMEOUT).
After that, When pressing Set(1) again, LED of NERR_OUT turns OFF.
    And then, Connect(2)- Load(3)- Load(4)- SPI Connect(5) will succeed.

Even if I press the NRST button on the AWR1243 BOOST, the states of the LEDs are the same, and the operation after that does not change.

    Regards,
    Masa
  • Hi Masa,

Could you check if pressing the Set(1) command of Reset Control twice after power up helps?

    Best Regards,
    Anand
  • Hi Anand
I tried to press the Set(1) command of Reset Control twice, but same error remained.

    And I noticed that
"Powering up the boards (DCA1000 and AWR1243BOOST) with only the SOP0 jumper followed by placing the SOP1 jumper and pressing NRST on the AWR1243BOOST board fixes the SPI connection issue."
from other post of this E2E e2e.ti.com/.../2627349

Exactly this is a way to solve my problem.
And as I posted first, it is also can be used to avoid this error that repeating the procedure of Reset(1)-Connect(2)-BSS Load(3)-MSSLoad(4) twice .
But both of above 2 procedures takes a little time when doing a lot of experiments.

Actually, this error doesn't occur on my IWR1443BOOST board.
So, I assume this error is a small bug due to the difference of 1243 and 1443.
Can you avoid this error with firmware fix or any RadarAPI commands?

    Regards,
    Masa
  • Hi Masa,

We are checking this and will get back to you shortly.

I believe this issue is already fixed in our AWR1243BOOST ES3 boards. For the AWR1243 ES2, I am afraid there will be no more firmware updates.

    Best Regards,
    Anand
  • Hi Anand

I understood that ES2 would have no more firmware updates.
And I can continue experimenting even with this bug.

Moreover, I'm very glad if you will check the other solutions.

    Thanks,
    Masa

  • Hi Masa,

I'm afraid we were not able to find any other solutions, and you may have to continue with this bug.

    Best Regards,
    Anand
