DCA1000EVM: AWR1642, the path of raw data after the Ethernet interface

Part Number: DCA1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVE-STUDIO

Hi,

I have two questions about DCA1000EVM. Hope you could help me figure them out.

1. Can the raw data be stored in the file(People set in 'mmwave studio') at the real time? Each time I want to read the data in this file, I need to press the 'Post Processing' button in 'Mmwave studio' firstly. Then I have to wait some time until the data has be copied to the file? The longer time I need to wait when the file is bigger.

So I am confused that if the data was stored in SSD after it went through the ethernet interface, and then it was copied to the file after the capturation process finished?

2. From some threads from the forrum, I know that the DCA1000EVM cannot capture data for a long time  beacause 'mmwave studio' will triger 'time out' signal. I want to know why the 'mmwave studio 'has to trigger 'time out' and what is the maximun time to trigger 'time out'?

Thanks,

William

  • Hello William,
As a default setting when you capture raw data with DCA1000 from mmWave Studio it streams over ethernet without temporary storing at SSD.
And even though you capture for very long time, DCA1000 will chunk off captured file to 1GB size limit and create a new bit file. DCA1000 captured and store the raw data in real time, it will have delay just for transferring the data from device to PC over ethernet.
After configuring DCA1000 and other sensor configuration when you click sensor-start (frame-trigger), DCA1000 will start capturing the raw data and you can see the stored data in file 'mmWaveStudio\PostProc\adc_data_Raw_0.bin'.
And when you click PostProc mmWave-Studio calls 'ar1.PacketReorderZeroFill' LUA function which does the packet reordering of captured file, (if due to network communication some packets are missed or got out of alignment then this tool will do the correction). Post-processing requires this step before start doing the any level of post-processing.
So, you don't need to click PostProc button to get the file. After the defined no. of frames are over only you need to click this button to do the post-processing. There is no. max time limit for capturing the raw data for mmWave Studio using DCA1000.
If you are planning to capture the raw data without post-processing you can do that as long as you want and later on you can do the post-processing.
