LDC1612EVM: Port Detection in 4 banana jack

Part Number: LDC1612EVM

Hello Team,

Greetings!!!

I have been testing the evaluation board with Coil E sensor for detecting the plug insertion into the standard 4 mm banana jack ( Digikey part number J155-ND).

The approximate distance between the banana jack outer surface and sensor coil top surface 2-3 mm.

I am not quite sure how to converge with the design with inductive sensing.

Can some one guide me in this regards?

Attached the file for more details

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi GRK,
Unless you have a large sensor, detecting a banana plug at 1 inch distance is not going to have a high SNR. The sensor should be larger than 2x the target to generate a strong inductive coupling with the target. There shouldn't be much difference in inductance between with and without jack. The reason you're seeing a flatter response with jack is because there are fewer significant figures compared to without jack response in your presentation.
