IWR1642BOOST: Visualization and custom user interface

Part Number: IWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1642, DCA1000EVM

Hi,

I am currently using the IWR1642 evaluation board for my project. The overall goal of the project is to use the IWR1642 with other sensors such as accelerometer, temperature & humidity sensor and display it on a custom GUI. We also want everything to be offline when it works and the data transferred over Bluetooth. My plan was to use MATLAB App to create this custom GUI instead of the mmwave studio/visualizer since I am also trying to incorporate data from other sensors. I have been trying to figure out what the best approach to this project is so the systems integrate effectively.

Doing further research, I figured I would have to connect the IWR1642 EVM to DCA 1000 EVM to capture raw ADC data and also connect it to another TI Launchpad for wireless transmission. From my understanding, in order to visualize the data, I have to use the demo visualizer or the mmwave studio + MATLAB PostProc.

1. Since I want to create my own custom user-interface which incorporates input from IWR1642 as well as other sensors, is it possible to just export the plots shown on the demo-visualizer to my MATLAB App and display it there or do I have to use the mmwave studio + MATLAB PostProc?

2. Since we plan to capture and transmit the data via Bluetooth. Is it possible to sync up the demo visualiser to receive and plot data from the IWR 1642 EVM sent over another EVM?

3. Would you have a more efficient or simpler way to approach this issue so we can send data over Bluetooth, visualize the data and create a simplified GUI which only displays the plots as well as other plots from other sensors.

Thanks

Ololade

  • Hi Ololade,

Since the IWR1642 does not have Bluetooth capability you will need to interface the EVM with a Bluetooth Module and transmit to another Bluetooth module. We have examples of where Radar data is sent over both UART and SPI that might be useful for you.

I don't think the DCA1000EVM is all that necessary for your project and you should be able to do it with just the EVM. Unless there is a specific reason you are trying to perform raw data capture?

    Cheers,
