OPT3101EVM: For the object with 10% reflectivity, What is the upper limit of the range speed and accuracy?

  • Hi Elsa,

Looking into this. It looks like you used the system estimator tool for getting an idea of this performance?

  • hi~Alex,

I used the actual 10% reflective surface to complete the ranging experiment, but found that the measured distance divergence observed by the Latte is very large, and the dispersion at 1m ,2K sps  is greater than 300 mm, which is very different from the data obtained by the OPT3101-System-Estimator.

If I use optical lens, can I get the accuracy of the distance consistent with the OPT3101-System-Estimator results:30mm error at 1m,2K sps?

    Wish your reply,Best!

  • Hi,

Thanks for all the details here. I'd like to do a test with the EVM here to try to replicate the issue that you are seeing and can get back by next week. Is this timeline okay for you?

  • Hi,

For the question of: What’s the upper limit of the range speed and accuracy using a laser? - speed and accuracy have an inverse relationship so there is no upper limit for both. Given a certain speed you can use the estimator tool to determine the max range that stays within a certain degree of accuracy that you require. You can also simulate a laser by adding your own emitter profile to the estimator tool. Please let me know if you need any help here.

In the screenshot you show I am seeing the distance reading close to 1m. Is the screenshot not showing the 300mm distance error?

Please see free to send me an email at bhandari at ti.com with answers here so I can help you faster. We can also see if setting up a call would help.

    Best,

    Alex
